Several billboards bearing the image of Patriarch Daniil and the message “Welcome, Your Holiness!” greeted the head of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church upon his arrival in Varna.
The billboards were placed at no fewer than four locations around the coastal city, where the patriarch arrived on Thursday to mark two historic anniversaries: 1,160 years since the Christianisation of the Bulgarian people and 1,170 years since the creation of the Bulgarian alphabet – the Glagolitic script.
The organizer is the Varna and Veliko Preslav Metropolitanate.
Varna is not the only city that welcomed Patriarch Daniel with a special gesture; the same billboard has also been erected in Shumen, where he will be on May 3rd.
The structures in Varna are located along Knjaz Boris I Boulevard in the “Chaika” district, with two additional billboards outside the city towards the resort complexes north of Varna. These were commissioned by the Varna Metropolitanate, according to “Za Istinata.” Their cost ranges between 500 and 1,000 Bulgarian levs for two weeks, depending on the exact location.
The billboards do not feature any side information that could be useful for those planning to attend the events where the Patriarch will be present.
