God Forbid!

How audacious do you have to be to place the blame for the state of the highways—your greatest pride during your 12 years of governance—on a government that fell within six months of its establishment?

The “Trakia” highway is said to be dangerous for people’s lives, but not because the companies benefiting from your mandates constructed and repaired it poorly in order to embezzle half the funds and delayed payments to subcontractors for months. No, it is because “We Continue the Change” did not do anything during its brief time in power.

How shameless do you have to be to claim that even with your experience, you are unwilling to fix a country that during your time ranked at the top of all the negative charts as the poorest and most corrupt country in Europe, and in some respects, in the world?

How thick-skinned do you have to be to play the role of a Euro-Atlantic supporter when you were gifting a dog to dictator Putin with your tail between your legs; when you built a pipeline costing 3 billion leva to supply gas to your protégés in Serbia and Hungary; and when you did nothing to detach Bulgaria from Russian energy dependence?

How brazen do you have to be to stand before the people who despised you due to the rampant corruption that demoralized institutions; due to the subjugation of all other powers in the country; because of the mafioso takeover of the state and claim that you are the only one who can save it?

During your 12 years in power, Bulgaria entered its most severe demographic crisis, as young people did not want and could not accept living in a country ruled by the mafia, where at any moment, your business could be stolen, you could be crushed in the street by a drunk or drugged heir of the former and current elite, beaten for 5 leva, and left waiting for justice from a system led by a person like Geshev.

The hallmarks of your governance will remain the broken street networks in the cities managed by GERB, as well as central squares that were unified in the worst possible way; football fields in villages that sit locked; sports halls where hundreds of millions disappeared and leaked in the first year after their opening; concreted parks and gardens; a desperate healthcare system and a completely inadequate educational system; deforested areas and polluted air; and a devastated railway transport system… it hardly seems worth continuing—the list of your administration’s “achievements” is long and disheartening.

For far too long, people have had to look at your face on their television screens and listen to your empty rhetoric.

Forget about ever returning to power.

If, however, that portion of the population that previously chose individuals like you, Slavi Trifonov, Mareshki, Kostadinov, etc., again decides that you are their chosen one, Bulgaria will truly become the ghetto of Europe, with an aging, marginalized, and semi-literate population.

God forbid!
